This post really has no relevance apart from the fact that my mood has been dark this weekend. I have been drawn back into the world of Ian Curtis. To be frank, I have been bordering on obsession. For me though, no band or lyricist has been more influential in the last 30 years. This time of the year I always have a few reflective weeks after Ian’s birthday (15th July). Due to Latitude and the Hydro Connect competition it was not until last week that the mood set in. I was 17 years old when Ian chose to end his life on 18th May 1980. Three months later on 18th August my best friend hung himself.
So tonight, I would really like to share three things with you - one of Joy Division’s first T.V appearances with an introduction by Tony Wilson on “Shadowplay”, the video for “Atmosphere”, and a tribute video to music legend Ian Curtis, lead singer of Joy Division, featuring the track written about Ian Curtis by Durutti Column, ‘The Missing Boy’.
