Spanish blog BuffetLibre recently asked a dozen or so bands to participate in its 80’s cover project called Rewind. Among the artists that participated were Dragonette, Somebody Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, The Electric Soft Parade, Saint Bernadette, South Central, The Cloud Room and one of Rock Sellout’s favorite remix collectives, RAC.
As I mentioned a few weeks ago, RAC’s chief remixer Andre Anjos plays keyboards in a band called The Pragmatic. For BuffetLibre’s covers record, Andre recruited fellow Pragmatic (and lead singer) Karl Kling and decided to go for a cover of one of the most memorable songs of the 80’s, A-Ha’s ‘Take On Me’.
I’ve included the track here for your downloading pleasure courtesy of Andre. I’m not sure if Karl can quite manage that notorious high note that Morten Harket made famous, but it’s definitely an interesting take. I’d also encourage you to visit BuffetLibre and check out some of the other tracks, including a cover of XTC’s ‘Another Satellite’ by SSLYBY, the Pet Shop Boys’ ‘Jealousy’ by The Electric Soft Parade and Dragonette’s take on ZZ Top’s classic anthem ‘Sharp Dressed Man’.

I thought it was horrible. But I’m pretty sick of all the covers of this song.

yeah that was bad. I couldn’t listen to the whole thing. The Cloud Room’s cover of New Order is amazing though!
