Most remixers seem to have stayed far away from The Raveonettes with a few rare exceptions. Perhaps because the band is just SO good, they’re seen as untouchable? Likely not, since I hear people butchering great songs in Ableton on an almost daily basis.
Whatever the reason, I started to think maybe it was for the best after hearing this take from Peter Holmstrom (The Dandy Warhols) & Jeremy Sherrer (The Village Green). Not that their approach was totally unexpected, given their respective bands’ sonic signatures. They just don’t seem to add much or make the song more dancefloor friendly in any way. In fact, it’s so close to the original it made me wonder what the point was. I’ll let you decide for yourselves.
The good news - Vice is finally releasing Lust Lust Lust stateside! Most have probably ordered the import or downloaded from the P2P de jour, but now’s your chance to own a physical copy on February 19th (you know, those CD thingys with artwork and such. SO 1999!).
As if that wasn’t enough, we’re also being treated to a supporting tour! If they’re coming near you, take advantage of the opportunity. It’s not like we get visits that often! I remember seeing the band ages ago (2003, I believe) on a tour with stellastarr*, supporting Chain Gang Of Love. It was in a tiny club in Phoenix called The Mason Jar (an occasional goth spot long since gone and converted to a gay bar), and there were maybe 60 people there. It’s one of the most memorable shows I’ve ever been to, so I’ll be excited to see them again.

Sorry Mark, didn’t mean to step on any toes! I just figured with the remix & press release Vice has been sending around that it would be worth it to mention it again. And I’m glad I’m not the only one that thinks that mix stinks! Haha.

I don’t mind Glasvegas, they’re a bit like a lighter Raveonettes (or at least musical cousins).
