Division Day cover Depeche Mode

To celebrate the release of their new album - Beartrap Island - Division Day have been offering up free covers every Tuesday until the release (Oct 2nd). So far, I haven’t been too interested in what they’ve offered up. Not that any of the covers have been bad, but they just didn’t seem to appeal to me. That all changed today though, as they produced their cover of one of my favorite, favorite, favorite songs EVER - Depeche Mode’s ‘Enjoy The Silence’.

In terms of Division Day’s original work, I haven’t been able to spend enough one-on-one time with the album to give a real review just yet. However, speaking strictly in terms of the cover, the band has nailed it pretty well. Of course, the original is such a strong piece it would take real effort for a band to blow it. That aside, DD do well with this material. They take a more-or-less acoustic route, but wisely retain the eerie atmospherics of the original. The lead singer reminds me a bit of Shout Out Louds’ Adam Olenius here, which seems to work. I dig it. Decide for yourself below.

Nice! This one was sitting in my inbox patiently awaiting to be posted. Good work, mate…now I can go watch a few episodes of Dexter.

[...] Last time they took on Depeche Mode’s ‘Enjoy The Silence’ and turned it into a haunting, semi-acoustic number. Now they’ve graduated to another of my favorite songs, Roxy Music’s ‘More Than This’. You might know it because you’re a fan of fantastic music, or you might know it because of Bill Murray’s crooner karaoke in ‘Lost in Translation’. Either way, the boys in Division Day do us - and Bryan Ferry - proud. [...]
